This photo was taken from an exhibition on a part of Zelzate that is called ‘Klein Rusland’ which means ‘Little Russia’ in English. All the houses were designed over there by a Russian nobleman and engineer who had to flee from Russia with his family.

His spouse was a Serbian princess. They were unhappy here. He said he had to live here like a poor man, while in Russia he was a wealthy man with a lot of land. He died first and the children went to study in big cities, Brussels and Antwerp and the princess died alone with her little dog beside her.

The group of old men came to sit regularly on that bench and they were called ‘the council of Little Russia’.
